#ForeverAlone: Trump at G20

Trumpg20

This past Saturday, leaders from the top twenty counties with the greatest economies met in Argentina at the G20 summit to discuss important issues

And then there’s Trump, standing out as much as his bright red tie.

The United States remains to be the only one of these twenty countries with a president who has rescinded his support from the Paris Climate Accords. Last Monday, Trump rejected a report provided by 13 United States federal agencies, compiled together by nearly 300 climate scientists warning of the massive threat global warming poses to future generations. With California burning this past month and hurricanes battering the eastern side of the United States last year, Trump refuses to believe the study.

Climate change doesn’t just dry up our water sources that we use for pretty much everything from drinking to agriculture to bathing. By stepping away from the Paris Climate Agreement, the United States “gains itself more emission space and lower mitigation costs” (1), pushing other countries into smaller spaces and raising the costs of lowering emissions. All in all, more effort and money will be needed to reach the two degree Celsius goal of the Paris Climate Agreement. In this fight against a warming planet, the president of the United States is isolated on his own island, and we are being left behind while the rest of the world addresses the challenge.

#ForeverAlone

Let’s try to bring him back into the fold.
