What would life be like without science? I took a look at Quora and found various narratives responding to that question, throwing in some visuals of my own. Our current administration believes denies basic science like climate change. Yet, science upholds the very fabric of our reality. Regardless of whether science is right or wrong, it is the pursuit of the right and wrong–the facts, in other words–that has played a vital role in pushing humanity to the point at which it is at now. So what where would we be without science? Let’s take a look at what Quora user, Yash Sanghvi, thought.
06:00 AM – Oops, no one knows time in this world. Obvious, isn’t it? Even the old Egyptian shadow clocks require science. Let’s call it “Morning.”
Morning : You wake up because of one of the following reasons:
1. Sunlight
2. Cock’s crow
3. Lion’s roar (well, do you expect yourself to be living in a 2B2B flat in this world?)
4. Hyena’s laughter, etc.
In short, anything except the alarm clock.

After waking up, you look around yourself. You are in one of the natural shelters of the world, it can be anything, a cave, the shade of a tree, etc. You can safely forget about brushing your teeth or having a bath in this world. After all, what’s the reason for doing that? Where there is no science, there is no reason.
You are thirsty, You go to the nearby pond of water and get yourself satisfied. Now, the local animals also use the same pond to satisfy their thirst. So, as fate would have it, the tiger had also come to the pond for satisfying his thirst that day. Seeing you, he thought of satisfying his hunger as well.

He looks at you with hungry eyes; you look at him with frightened eyes. You think of a way to save yourself. You see flintstones nearby, you light up a fire and scare away the tiger. But wait, isn’t that science? Plan dumped.
So, you can’t even light a fire in this world, so the only way out is to run. You run as fast as your legs could carry you. Let’s assume that you are lucky. Somehow, you escape from the tiger by finding a hiding place. You take a sigh of relief.
But now, your legs are badly hurt and bleeding thanks to the terrain (don’t expect footwear).
You look around and take some medicinal herbs to apply to your feet. Wait, isn’t that science? Plan dumped.
You go to the community of humans and a “wise” old man helps you by saying a few holy words to your legs. He tells you that your legs will now be healed and all humans believe it without questioning.

For the continuation of the story, let’s assume that your legs somehow got healed. What an eventful morning, isn’t it? Come afternoon.
Afternoon: You are hungry. You go around looking for food (no agriculture, no fire, no cooking). All you can do is eat food raw. Luckily, you find some fruits, but the branch on which the fruits are present it too high.

You find yourself in the position of the fox who had said that the grapes are sour. What will you do? You can’t climb that high. You find yourself a ladder and pluck the fruits. Wait, isn’t that science? Plan dumped.
Even you say that the fruits are sour and move on to find a shorter tree with fruits. Luckily you find one and satisfy your hunger.
You spend the rest of the afternoon roaming around and spending time with nature. Yes, the nature is your friend. Your favorite sports include climbing up trees, swimming, plucking fruits using stone’s throw, etc. You have grown to respect nature and every inhabitant of it. Because you don’t have science, you don’t have the means and hence the desire to take over nature for your own benefit. You live in peace with nature.

Evening: The sun is down and there is no light. The best you can do is sleep peacefully in a good spot, without any regrets from the past or worries about the future. Yes, there are worries, what if an animal makes you his prey during the night, what if a snake bites you? But these are the things beyond your control. You just hope for the best and go to sleep.

So, did you like the day?
End.
Just one of the many possible scenarios without science and one of the many reasons why we should keep fighting for science. #KeepMarching
